Jose Mourinho replies when asked about Tottenham closing in on Chelsea FC

Jose Mourinho has insisted that his Tottenham Hotspur team are taking each game as it comes as they continue their climb up the Premier League table.
The Blues sealed a 3-2 win over Bournemouth in the Premier League at home on Saturday to slash the gap to fourth-placed Chelsea FC down to just six points.
Chelsea FC have lost their last two games in the Premier League, with Frank Lampard’s men having followed up their 2-1 defeat by Manchester City with a surprise 1-0 loss to West Ham United on Saturday.
Those results have allowed Mourinho’s Spurs team to surge up the Premier League table and haul themselves straight back into contention for a top-four finish.
Speaking in his post-match news conference after Saturday’s win over Bournemouth, Mourinho was asked to give his take on where his team stand now that they are just six points behind Chelsea FC.
And the Portuguese coach replied: “When I arrived we were 12 points behind the last Champions League position and I didn’t want to think about it, I just wanted to play matches.
“I think we were eight or nine from a Europa League position and I said if we thought about it too much we would be depressed because we want to play European football next season. “So, don’t get depressed, play game after game and see what is going to happen.
“Now the distance is smaller, we won two matches, we are going into a period with lots of matches, the Christmas period is match, match, match, match.
“So you have the chance of both. You have the chance to break down, we have the chance to put pressure on the opponent.
“We play Chelsea at the end of December, if the game was tomorrow, we would play them with six points difference, it would be a fantastic situation to play them, but we play them in the end of December.
“We have to keep close, as close as possible. But we have a lot to work and a lot to improve.”
Mourinho is now preparing to take his Tottenham Hotspur side to Old Trafford to face his former club Manchester United on Wednesday night.
Chelsea FC, meanwhile, will dust themselves down after Saturday’s loss to the Hammers as they prepare for a home clash against Aston Villa in midweek.
